Understanding the Business Outcomes Dashboard
Teams have struggled to understand the "value" of what they deliver while Leaders have struggled to articulate their strategic outcomes and ensure all work is aligned to measurable value. These two reasons are why we created the Business Outcomes Dashboard.
Almost a decade ago, we built this concept of a visual room with vibrant walls that bring visibility into DEMAND (strategic and annual objectives and key results (OKRs) we aim to achieve and their related projects/epics) and CAPACITY (the teams of teams who are aligned to own and support the achievement of these outcomes). Our "hack" was to get siloed groups to work together and align around shared outcomes using colorful boards in a dedicated space. Soon, this became a popular pattern that attracted executives and board members to visit and tour this powerful room. Annual and quarterly planning was happening here collaboratively!
The Outcomes Wall has the Strategic Outcomes & Key Results (OKRs) and each Team of Teams or Portfolio (shown horizontally) identified which objectives they will OWN or SHARE with others. The Delivery Plan Wall lays out a full 3-year plan with Epics/Projects or just one year in a quarterly view.
While the physical room is very effective to kick off this level of integrated planning, we needed a digital version to maintain, scale, and easily provide visibility into progress. We created this digital twin within the AgilityHealth platform. Here's an example of an Outcome Wall:
